Avocado, sweet potato, wild rice, and sunflower seeds
We need to eat food that’s good for us, but it also needs to be stable and not difficult to store safely. We plan to cook over fire and burning wood. We can start a fire and do that each time we want to cook, but what we’re going to think about and try to do is to batch cook. If we have a campfire at night, we can go ahead and cook our lunches for the week or for the next few days and then package them up and put them in our fridge freezer.
That is exactly what we did this week. We cooked our lunches like we were remote camping and we put them in the containers that we purchased to put inside the fridge freezer when we’re on the road. It’s easy enough to do this with just our lunches because we work from home and we can control this easily now. This is also healthier food than what we normally eat at home so we’re gonna go ahead and start our diet that we would have on the road which will help us get “road ready”.
As you can see, there are many things you can do before you start living outside and preparing all your food in a more traditional manner without microwaves and processed food or packaged items.
We found some other recipes we’re gonna try out. We may post them here. This was quick and easy because you boil the sweet potatoes and mash them, then you get some long grain wild rice and cook that for about an hour (because it’s not the 10 minute boil in bag rice) and then the sunflower seeds at the time you make the food. We put the sweet potatoes and rice and these metal containers which you can check out our blog post here to see that… Put sunflower seeds, avocado on our lunch and there’s no prep and minimal cleanup.
Preparing and cleaning up all of it at one time instead of doing it every day and having to clean up the same the things required to do the meal prep each time saves on water and. other resources which need to reserved when living outdoors and remote (dispersed).
